My name is Steve Peterson, and capturing wonderful family memories is my life’s devotion. I'm a professional family photographer, but more than that, I'm just like you... I'm a family person. By exploring my site and reading this page I applaud you for your consideration in having a family portrait taken.
The elusiveness of family is a constantly shifting meaning. Taking the time on a regular basis, to be photographed is a benchmark to our journey through life. Family photography is a wonderful way to maintain contact and recall those special times together even when some of the family members are far away.

Proper planning for your family portrait is a very necessary and essential step in the photographic process. Steve helped us through the clothing considerations, background choices, and the logistics of dealing with a large group. Our portrait experience went very well and we are very happy with our pictures. Tom & Teresa Eiden - Bellingham
Family - to me - embraces the grander spectrum of love that we impart to those we hold dear. Children and pets are obviously an inclusion in this definition. However, even the particulars of a hobby can be very significant in our pattern of life. It is these individuals and instances that evolve with time - which is sometimes sad, sometimes joyous. But all of which demand photographic documentation or visual bookmark of what has become so meaningful in our specific life journey.

Steve imparts an energy and enthusiasm about his work that is infectious. He makes you feel good and it translates into excellent portraiture.

When you think of it, there are really few times in your life when a definite mark can be made that illustrates you and your important relationships. The world in which we now live finds the pace of changing relationships accelerated. School, jobs, health, all provide needs for different people and reasons for the nuclear family to evolve certainly much more rapidly than it did in our parent's or grandparent's time. This is why it is so necessary to formally record these important stages of your life and relationships on a regular basis. It is sort of like buying insurance - you're investing in images which will restore the true memory you have or had for these special times in your life.

Thanks Steve, your suggestion of organizing our family portrait around a theme or activity really worked. Since we all enjoy music, bringing our instruments and building a portrait around their use - with us "doing our thing" really brought out some great natural expressions.

Hi Steve, the collage you put together of Adriana and Dakota turned out perfect! It is like a storyline through images; something that we will always treasure and keep forever. Purjillo Family, Blaine
Secondly, perhaps as much as anything, your clothing choices are extremely important. So many otherwise perfect family photos are ruined by someone showing up in a plaid hunting jacket or a bright red dress when everyone else has chosen an informal denim apparel. Since my mom is 85 years old and her mobility is somewhat limited, it was a great help for Steve to make a “house call,” setting up our family portraits right in our back yard. Steve was very conscientious, coming over to check the light at the time of day just prior to the session, and checking details like coordinated clothing color. He even cajoled the feisty two-year-old out of the “terribles” and into a smile. Our family portraits have garnered compliments from artists and photography buffs alike. Most important: we love them. We recommend Steve Peterson Photography with smiles!
