Family - to me - embraces the grander spectrum of love that we impart to those we hold dear. Children and pets are obviously an inclusion in this definition. However, even the particulars of a hobby can be very significant in our pattern of life. It is these individuals and instances that evolve with time - which is sometimes sad, sometimes joyous. But all of which demand photographic documentation or visual bookmark of what has become so meaningful in our specific life journey.

It’s A Moving Target.

When you think of it, there are really few times in your life when a definite mark can be made that illustrates you and your important relationships. The world in which we now live finds the pace of changing relationships accelerated. School, jobs, health, all provide needs for different people and reasons for the nuclear family to evolve certainly much more rapidly than it did in our parent's or grandparent's time. This is why it is so necessary to formally record these important stages of your life and relationships on a regular basis. Secondly, perhaps as much as anything, your clothing choices are extremely important. So many otherwise perfect family photos are ruined by someone showing up in a plaid hunting jacket or a bright red dress when everyone else has chosen an informal denim apparel. Since my mom is 85 years old and her mobility is somewhat limited, it was a great help for Steve to make a “house call,” setting up our family portraits right in our back yard. Steve was very conscientious, coming over to check the light at the time of day just prior to the session, and checking details like coordinated clothing color. He even cajoled the feisty two-year-old out of the “terribles” and into a smile. Our family portraits have garnered compliments from artists and photography buffs alike. Most important: we love them.
