Dear Friend,
This site is going to give you answers to all your questions. Whether you're looking for a hight school senior photographer, a wedding photographer, someone to photograph your family, or a photographer who can capture the essence of your child's personality, after a few minutes browsing this site, you will know everything you need to know.
If you're like most people, you probably get a bit overwhelmed as you go through the Yellow-Pages and different web sites and quickly realize there are a lot of photographers to choose from. How do you decide with whom to invest your time and money? Well, don't worry, I'm going to clue you in on the VITAL THINGS you must ask of any photographer.
One of the WORST TRAPS YOU CAN FALL INTO is basing your decision of choosing a photographer solely on the cheapest price. If price is your only determiner then why are you more particular when choosing a car or a particular brand at your local super market? The product(s) of photography vary tremendously. Certainly if you give it pause for thought you can come up with all sorts of reasons which sets a particular person or service apart in the business arena. Photography and photographers are no different.
is the photographer a people person? Does he or she listen to your ideas and incorporate them into the photo session? Does he have a good rapport with your member group? Nothing discourages natural expressions more than not liking your photographer.
obviously... what is the photographer's skill level? Becoming a good photographer takes years of study and training plus the right equipment. Knowing proper lighting, arranging groups - and now - coaxing maximum quality out of your digital images is not something that one inherits through buying a fancy camera.
does the photographer have a studio? Not that this is an absolute requirement but the weather for this region of the country doesn't allow for outdoor photography on a consistent basis. Also, many people prefer the different props, varied backgrounds and independent environment that the studio can provide. It can be another indicator as to just how skilled or serious your photographer is as to whether or not he or she can provide this option to cover your photographic needs.
today's photography involves so much more than just getting a few good images. With the creativity that the digital realm has brought forward there are so many ways building your image display after the photo-session that this is an ever evolving study. Currently, collages and mini albums are quite popular so this requires of the photographer to be a good designer - to be able to effectively work with sequencing images. Your photographer must also have a great color sense as personal printing or lab requirements now burden the photographer with providing a digital file with optimum fidelity which means computer skills at retouching color management and image maximization. You should know who does this - is it the photographer who knows what you want or does the photographer blankly pass this responsibility off to the lab (for average results.)?
prices - definitely this will make up a strong part of your decision but as I'm sure you are finding out, there are about as many ways of pricing photography as there are photographers. Will you be asked to purchase packages (which sometimes contain many items that you don't want)? Do you have sufficient choices so you can get what you want without breaking the bank? Also, don't forget that pricing is basically made up of two elements: 1) the creation fee (sometimes called the sitting fee) and 2) the cost of the various photographic products. So if you call and ask the common question - how much is an 8x10? - that is only the tip of the iceberg for the actual bottom line of what the services will total.
My goal is simple: I want your photographs to be perfect. Therefore, regardless of whether you decide to have me create your photographs or not, I still want you to know about the things most photographers DON'T want you to know about.
